Healing and Love

I believe in the healing power of unconditional love. This may sound illusionary or naive, but it is my own experience. I grew up in an environment of violence, abuse and restrictions of all kinds. Love was not an issue, everything was about fitting into a religious system that dealt with guilt, shame, sin, confession, living up to their standards or being condemned forever. So my general expectations in life were ruled by fear to do something wrong and getting punished, being expelled and not belonging. One could say I was a very traumatized person with a bag full of issues from my past. I experienced the healing power of unconditional love with my first therapist who gave me the feeling that it was ok, whatever I felt, expressed and transferred onto him. He would just be there, supporting, not demanding, but gently helping me to discover my true self. Years later I met a man who became my most important mentor, teacher and friend, Veeresh. When we met for the first time, I immediately felt that he would never hurt me, and his love and friendship accompanied me and supported me to become who I am today. Whenever I am doubting myself in any area, I visualize what he would say, and I always feel his unconditional love and support for me. In my own life, as a therapist, as a friend, as a lover, I try my best to love. Sometimes unconditional love is not easy, and I often fail, as I do have expectations, wishes, hopes, which are not always met on the other side, but I am working on it.
